Baltic Yachts backs 50m BlackCat catamaran concept

Finnish superyacht yard Baltic Yachts has been named as the official build partner of the 50 metre BlackCat catamaran project.

Australian yachtsman Mitch Booth and multihull expert Malcolm McKeon created the BlackCat brand. The first model revealed is a 50 metre concept which would become the largest single-structure carbon-fibre yacht in the world if built.

The efficient design means that the yacht will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 30 knots while the shallow draft will offer great flexibility for anchoring.

Former Olympian Booth, who has spent more than 40 years racing catamarans, said it was a “logical progression for superyacht designs to move towards catamarans”.

“There are so many advantages to multihull superyachts compared to our monohull cousins, such as speed, space, low heel comfort, the list goes on and on,” Booth added. “This ‘super cat’ concept is really exciting because there is nothing else available that combines the practicality of an enormous, stable, platform, with exhilarating performance.

The accommodation space on board is a whopping 340 square metres, all within a 50-metre vessel; something that has not been done until now.”

The low levels of roll and pitch movement provide an extremely stable deck for comfortable nights at anchor. Due to its lightweight and low-drag design the BlackCat should also incur lower fuel and crew costs.

Key features on board include a superyacht swimming pool, which is situated on the foredeck, adjacent to the owner's suite. In addition to Baltic Yachts, other key partners signed up to the project include North Sails and Southern Spars, while M2Atelier Group would create the interior design.

“I’m thrilled that we’re designing this new style of catamaran," added McKeon. "There has been space in the market for some time for a large catamaran design that can offer the luxury and quality of a superyacht this size, and also provide this stability and high performance.”

Lürssen Launch 123m Superyacht Project Jupiter

The 123-metre superyacht Project Jupiter, has been introduced to the water by Lursen Yachts, presenting a truly cutting-edge project with flowing signature lines by desinger Johnny Horsfield of H2 Yacht Design.

After speculating the launch to be the 124 metre Project Jupiter, Lurssen Yachts has today confirmed our theory, with the exception of a metre. Based on H2 Yacht Design's previous concept Project Mars, this incredible superyacht features an aggressive and sporty style with well balanced proportions which Lurssen describes as similar to the owner's first yacht, and something that will stun the Hollywood crowd.

Speaking to us back in May 2015, Horsfield spoke about the project's style from a first-hand perspective: “Getting the scale of the exterior right was the hardest thing, and I know a lot of people say ‘you can’t scale up a Sunseeker to that size’ but we thought, you know what, you can. So, we went against all the rules, and consequently the level of detail and the surfacing features are dramatic and more like a 60 metre.”

Her arching design features and large glass facades provide panoramic views from her eclectic interior by March & White. The interiors themselves are designed to provide a contemporary home throughout, defined by timeless styling, nautical details and highly innovative bespoke finishes.

With a beam of 20 metres, her interior atrium opens up the centre of the yacht to pull natural light deep into the yacht, earning her place as 21st position in the Top 100 Largest Yachts in the World.
The exterior paint is not classic white, but a light grey to show off the aggressive surfacing and edges in the sunlight. One of the defining details of this Jupiter seems to be the mid ship balconies which can be spotted on previous H2 projects, such as the 73 metre Vicky and the 123 metre Al Maryah.

Set for delivery in 2017, this superyacht is a fantastic addition to the global fleet with a game-changing design and a universe of secrets to uncover.
