On June 9, 2014, as part of the "Nordseewoche", the starting signal for the legendary Pantaenius Rund Skagen race will be given. About 80 Crews are expected to participate in the pursuit of a new course record in this year's edition of the Pantaenius Rund Skagen Race.Recognized as one of Europe's toughest offshore regattas, this race is ruthless. 510 nautical miles-spread out over three different estuaries-separate the start at Helgoland from the port of destination, Kiel. After the German shelf sea has been mastered, the route leads across the Skagerrak, Atlantic's tongue, until the competitors finally reach the ever unpredictable Baltic Sea.From blustering winds and heavy swells to freezing nights, participating yachts and their crews constantly face new challenges. Previous years' dropout rates offer clear proof of Pantaenius Rund Skagen's heavy demands on man and material. To assert yourself here, you need stamina, excellent seamanship skills-and most of all, tactical finesse. Yet,anyone who participates is rewarded with a memorable regatta experience, as well as bragging-rights associated with finishing a race that, in terms of prestige, ranks up there with the Sydney-Hobart, Newport-Bermuda and Fastnet Races as one of the world's most distinguished sailing races. To fulfill this type of offshore regatta's specific requirements, Pantaenius relies on the highest safety standards. For example, ISAF-certificated Survival at Sea courses are compulsory for a pre-defined percentage of each crews' members, as is close collaboration with local rescue services and voluntary assistants.
