This year is also slowly coming to the end. The sunny days to spend on the sea, the days of the unique feeling of freedom while sailing at the most beautiful sea in the world (as said by many people) are behind us.

But as time passes so quickly the new year will also bring some new sunny days and new opportunities to sail. You have probably been informed that Republic of Croatia is to join the European family as 28th full member next year (01.07.2013.).

Connected to that fact certain measures will be introduced in order to stimulate the owners of the boats situated in Croatia to perform the import customs procedure in Croatia and obtain the Croatian flag for their boats.

This measure is mainly imply to those owners who have not yet paid the tax at the acquisition of the boat in their countries, since the boats were immediately exported into “third countries” and especially those whose domicile countries have no knowledge that they posses the boat registered in for example Delaware, Cayman Islands, Marshall Islands etc.

Even if you do not belong to the category of citizens, who have to regulate their status and pay tax, it may be possible that you want to register your boat with domestic, Croatian flag. The fact that the boat is registered to domestic flag makes the things much simpler and on the other hand much cheaper (no more vignette, limitation on the number of passengers, higher prices for dock use in ports etc.).

We have received information from the Ministry of Tourism that our Government has just passed the final draft of the Law on the lowering of the VAT for the boats for sport and leisure in the period of 1^st of January 2013.- 31^st of May 2013. from 25% to 5%.

In he meantime there is legislation introduced already stating that the (tax on boats) toll is reduced to 0% value.

Also recently the custom duties is reduced from 8% to 1,7% for the boats up to 12 m length  and to 0% for the boats longer than 12 meters.

All these favorable measures will be valid for a very short period of time – up to 31^st of May 2013., that is one month before Croatia becomes a full member of EU. After that date all the measure will be annulled and all the costs will be returned to previous values.

So, we use this opportunity to inform you in order to have enough time to bring up the decision whether you are willing to have your boat under the flag of Republic of Croatia.
