The ACI Marina Opatija is located in Ičići, protected from the strong bora by Istria's highest mountain Učka, not far from the first sea health resort on the Adriatic and the cradle of elite tourism in this region since the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It is the best harbor for yachts up to 40 meters in length and has had a maritime tradition in the northern Adriatic for as many as 30 centuries. In the 9th century BC the descendants of Liburns lived here, great builders of fast ships built from wooden planks and sewn ropes by which they sailed to North Africa and Little Asia.
