Palmer Johnson launches first 48-meter SuperSport luxury yacht

American yard Palmer Johnson has launched probably one of their most anticipated luxury yachts in recent times. Yes you guessed it, they launched the first hull in the 48-meter SuperSport Series. Hull 4801 is unique in almost every way you look at the design. She has a piercing bow and flowing lines along the structure. Another design element that stands out is the use of sponsons, almost as outriggers. While the piercing bow has been designed to slice and reduce pitching, the sponsons should provide greater stability against rolling.

As many of you know already, the hull and superstructure were not built in the U.S but by Norwegian sub-contractor Brødrene and then shipped over to be completed. Thanks to her pair of MTU 16V 2000 M94s and carefully optimized hull form hull 4801 is expected to have a top speed just over 30-knots. Efficiency is also part of the brief with this build. In fact, Palmer Johnson are suggesting that she will be 50% more fuel efficient than vessels of similar size.

The external look is quite striking. She is finished in a gold paint, which is reminiscent of the first hulls in previous PJ models, is accented by black. The entire vessel has been constructed in Carbon Composite and offers alot of space onboard. Her sponsons stretch her beam to an impressive 11-meters. Accommodation is going to be for twelve guests and the owner has a full beam suite in the forward hull complemented by full-height windows as well as a fold-down balcony. As many as nine crew can be slept onboard. This 48-meter is going to be the first in the SuperSport series from Palmer Johnson to be delivered.
